The Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation (JOOF) is a philanthropic, social welfare, Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), registered in 1995 in honour of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

OUR VISION

JOOF is committed to a society in which social justice, peace and democracy prevail. This vision is based on the principles of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga's virtues and values. Most notable of these are :

  • Education, where he espoused liberation theology and civic education as critical to societal development.
  • Ideals of democracy, as seen in his quest for expansion of political space, participation and empowerment of all citizens
  • African socialism and belief in community, as espoused in his belief of pan-Africanism.
  • Enterprise of the individual, through supporting business and entrepreneurship.
  • Gender equity.
  • Social justice

Culture Theory & Diaspora

  • A one-stop community-based museum, exhibition centre, and research center, situated on Jaramogi's homestead in Bondo
  • Development of a complementary library and multimedia computer centre on Jaramogi's homestead in Bondo
  • Create complementary courses & workshops (Cultural and academic exchange programs)
  • Got Ramogi Sacred Forest- Create complementary courses & workshops
  • Cultural events and festivals
    • Support African music and art production
    • Support African design in architecture, dressing etc.
    • Create cross-cultural spaces & initiatives supporting the mosaic of Kenyan identity.
    • Create programs and events that promote Pan-Africanism and African heritage.

Social and Economic Empowerment

  • Support of disadvantaged students in the arts, sciences and the humanities as well as the support/recognition of outstanding achievement in all disciplines.
  • Creation of resource centers for youth and the elderly
  • Promotion of community health education and practice.

ALTERNATE OBJECTIVES

  • To enable communities to be drivers of change through democratic and effective management their own resources
  • To inspire a re-assessment and appropriation of cultural expressions, values and knowledge in order to restore the dignity of the African thespian
  • To promote social justice and democracy in Africa and the rest of the world through dialogue, debate, research and advocacy.
