-
African
Philosophical Thoughts and Traditions:
Focus on the different schools of African philosophy.
Programmatic objective is to highlight the evolution
of multi religious and multi cultural ethos of Africa.
These programs will also try to familiarize the public
about African philosophy and try to indicate the creative
synthesis in African philosophical traditions.
- African Architecture,
Sculpture and Music:
Culture is for most part learnt and communicated in its
traditional art forms, in its encounters with music, dance,
drama, architecture, sculpture, rituals, cinema etc. One
of the objectives of these programs is to acquaint the public
to African culture through its traditional art forms. Programs
supported under this component would try to give a historical
overview of ancient art, architecture, folklore, and dramatics.
They will address how these ancient arts survived the onslaught
of various invasions and how they continued to survive during
the long colonial period and what is their condition in
the post-independent, post-colonial state.
- African Civilization
and Culture:
This
program component will deal with understanding "Culture"
in Africa and understanding the continent and its history
(From ancient, classical ages and colonial to post-colonial).
These programs will deal with the concepts of family, community
and ethnicity, as well as the tensions of religion and secularism
in the modern, post-colonial African state. Programs will
also try to challenge the usage of that feature of African
society called "tribe" from various perspectives.
