Social
and Economic Empowerment

problems of economic development in sub-Saharan Africa
by setting them in the context of the economic and social
history of the continent. The foundation is charged with

for country- level implementation of actions.
Potential
recipients should facilitate the transformation of public
policies so that they equalize opportunities between women
and men and redirect resources to those investments in
which women's participation brings about the highest social
returns.
Potential
recipients should facilitate the creation (at the household
and formal schooling levels) opportunities for the next
generation to develop skills appropriate for the information
age. The youth would also greatly benefit from skills
for promoting men and women as equal partners in society.
What innovative strategies can be adopted to equip the
new generation with the life skills necessary to create
societies based on gender equity?
